Our wedding slideshow

The wedding came and went so quickly. But it was a blast!!! Thank you to everyone who made it out to celebrate with us. We do have a wonderful slideshow Pedro's cousin Julie put together for us. She did a fabulous job, and we are so thankful for her, Carlos and baby Carina! :)

WOW

This is the funniest thing I've seen all day!

If you don't know Bob and Rosemary Barnes (the runners to the right), you should check out their organization Sheridan House. Bob writes for The Good News, where I work, and his son, Robey, is our pastor!

(Mostly Local) Wedding Resources I Love

Some people have asked me about the people who helped us plan *our big day* so I thought I'd just list all of the wonderful people I know in the wedding industry here.

Dresses and Accessories:
Discount Elegant Bridal
Wise-Brides.com
I might as well tell all of you in the blog-o-sphere because I’ve basically told the whole world already, but I love Wise-Brides.com, a.k.a. Carol Alvarado’s wedding dress store in North Miami. I bought both of my wedding dresses at Carol’s too-cute shop for a total of $300. How is this possible? Only by the grace of God. It could also be because I’m cheap, I’m not sure. :P But Carol is the sweetest, kindest, Christian woman who just wants to help brides have a wonderful, memorable day. Definitely check her out!

Wedding Planning:
JCS Events
http://jcsevents.com/
JCS Events is also run by wonderful faithful Christians, one of which you might have heard on the 90.3 WAFG, James Sheppard. James and his wife Candace help brides and grooms plan and schedule everything for reasonable prices. They are very helpful, and they know tons of people in the local wedding industry.

Photography:
Tim Goodchild Photography
http://www.timgoodchildphotography.blogspot.com/

I chose Tim because he captures great moments!!! Check out some of the hilarious garter shots he’s posted on his blog. He is so kind, and he did such a great job dealing with us and our crazy family and friends. Check out his blog to see a few weddings he’s photographed recently (ours included!). You might even see a few faces you recognize. .......

My other photo crushes:
Curtis Copeland Photography
http://curtiscopeland.blogspot.com/
I’d recommend Curtis to any of my friends even if he wasn’t Pedro’s old roommate. Curtis has a very giving heart and has offered his photography services for a ton of ministry functions at Calvary Chapel Ft. Lauderdale, and he does an awesome job!!! He even took our pre-engagement shots a while back. God bless him!

Captured Photography
http://capturedphotographyandvideography.wordpress.com/
I recently found Jenny’s photography online. I love her work, and I found out she’s a Christian too. And plus she’s got such a cute little one. You have to check out her site just to see her little girl’s baby blues.

DAJO Photography
http://www.dajophotography.com/
DAJO is a husband and wife photography team, created by David and Johanna Moreno, whom I absolutely adore. They are so kind, and they have great style which you can tell from their website and their work. They also have very reasonable prices.

Hannah Reichel Photography
http://www.hannahreichel.com/

This post wouldn’t be complete without a shout out to my great friend Hannah! She lives in VA but she frequently visits Florida to shoot weddings. Her prices are super reasonable too. I love this girl!!!!

PinMeUp Photography
http://www.pinmeupphotography.com/
My friend Marilyn’s boudoir photography speaks for itself. But, be warned, it's racy stuff. Seriously. Don’t check it out if it's going to make you stumble. She also does wedding photography!

Hair and Make-up
Beauty by Lia
http://www.beautybylia.com/

I found Lia’s website while searching for a hair and make-up person in South Florida. I saw some of her work online, and decided to take a chance on letting her do my hair and make-up without a trial. (I just ran out of time.) But, what a good decision that was! She did everything exactly like I wanted, and she made me look better than I thought was possible. She is so sweet! I am so glad I chose her!

Illustration Design
Heather Warriner
http://www.thepiggyback.blogspot.com/

You may have noticed lots of little shell sketches all over the invitations, the programs and anything else I could slap them on. That’s because Heather Warriner designed 20 great antique-looking shell designs just for me. She caught my vision right away and even took a trip to the beach to get started thinking of designs.

Invitation/Program Design
Me!
I designed our invitations and programs, so if you are ever in need of wedding, birthday or simple party invitations, e-mail me. I also do senior ads and anything else thrown my way. A little shameless self-promotion never hurt anybody. :)

Our wedding slideshow

The wedding came and went so quickly. But it was a blast!!! Thank you to everyone who made it out to celebrate with us. We had a great time, and we hope you did too. We don't have the professional photographs of the wedding yet, but you can watch out for them at Tim Goodchild's photo blog.

We do have a wonderful slideshow Pedro's cousin Julie put together for us though. She did a fabulous job, and we are so thankful for her, Carlos and baby Carina! :)

Your input

I'm just wondering what your marriage advice is.... Leave a comment and tell us about it.

Here are some interesting quotes I've found on the issue:

"A happy marriage is the union of two good forgivers."-Ruth Bell Graham

"You can never be happily married to another until you get a divorce from yourself. Successful marriage demands a certain death to self."-Jerry McCant

"Marriage is three parts love and seven parts forgiveness of sins."-Langdon Mitchell

"Once a woman has forgiven her man, she must not reheat his sins for breakfast."-Marlene Dietrich

"How can a woman be expected to be happy with a man who insists on treating her as if she were a perfectly normal human being?"-Oscar Wilde

"Spouse: Someone who'll stand by you through all the trouble you wouldn't have had if you'd stayed single."-Author Unknown .....

"What counts in making a happy marriage is not so much how compatible you are, but how you deal with incompatibility."-George Levinger

"Marriage is our last, best chance to grow up."-Joseph Barth

"To keep your marriage brimming,With love in the loving cup,Whenever you're wrong admit it;Whenever you're right shut up."-Ogden Nash

"Marriage is more than your love for each other. It has a higher power, for it is God's holy ordinance, through which He wills to perpetuate the human race until the end of time. In your love you see only your two selves in the world, but in marriage you are a link in the chain of the generations, which God causes to come and to pass away to His glory, and calls into His kingdom. In your love you see only the heaven of your own happiness, but in marriage you are placed at a post of responsibility towards the world and all mankind."—Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Wedding week activities

Dec. 31 – New Year’s Eve Block Party
Our family and friends are going to watch the ball drop and dance the night away to Pedro’s DJ skills at a New Year’s Eve Block Party in Davie. For more information on this event, please call me (Didi) at 954-515-2147.

Jan. 1 – New Year’s Day

Jan. 2 – Rehearsal and Rehearsal Dinner
Bridal party and immediate family members are invited … or forced, whichever way you’d like to look at it … to rehearse the ceremony with us at 5 p.m. at the New River Inn (300 SW 2nd Avenue Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301) in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. The rehearsal dinner will then follow at Massimo’s Italian Cuisine in Miramar (11386 Miramar Parkway Miramar, FL 33025) at 7 p.m. Mmmm ... can't wait.

Jan. 3 – The BIG Day
God has blessed us so much, and we can't wait to share our joy with you! It’s going to be great! Just keep in mind that the ceremony starts at 4:30 p.m., but parking may take a few minutes so try to get there early! The reception will begin at 6:45 p.m. and will end about 11 p.m. And, don't forget ... it might be a bit chilly because the reception will be on the water.

Jan. 4 – Church at West Pines
You are welcome to attend our church, West Pines Community Church, if you’re still in town on Sunday. Services start at 10:45 a.m. at The Academic Village on the corner of Sheridan St. & 172nd Avenue. You can find the church easily if you follow the signs on Sheridan Street west of I-75.

Other activities to try out while you’re in town:
The Field
Pedro has played the harmonica at The Field, our favorite Irish pub, plenty of times. They’ve got great food, great music and an even better atmosphere.

The Field
3281 Griffin Rd
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312

Billie Swamp Safari
If you’re in the mood for something simply South Floridian, try a swamp buggy tour in the Everglades. Airboat rides are $15, and swamp buggy tours are $25 or less for seniors and children. Billie Swamp Safari is open daily from 8:30 a.m.–6 p.m. and located at the Big Cypress Reservation. For more information, call 1-800-949-6101 or 941-983-6101.

Holiday Fantasy of Lights Drive-Thru
Going to the Holiday Fantasy of Lights is one of my favorite childhood memories! Tradewinds Park will be decorated with three miles of wintery light displays from now until Jan. 4. You simply have to drive through and “ooooh” and “ahhhh.” It helps if it’s cold outside too. This attraction is $12 per car and is available from 6–10 p.m. each night. For more details, visit www.HolidayLightsDriveThru.com.

Tradewinds Park
3600 W. Sample Rd.
Coconut Creek, FL 33073

Registries

Hey all,
A few people have called wondering where we're registered. They came looking for answers here, but found none. So, if you're interested, Pedro and I are registered at Macy's and Crate and Barrel. :) I can't wait to see you all in less than 20 days!

Didi and Pedro 4Eva

  • We just got hitched.
He's freaking hilarious, a bit ADD and full of heart. I'm "girl funny" as Pedro puts it, a bit Type A and in love with Jesus, my new hubby and my big fat italian/scottish/german/and-now-puertorican/mexican family. And we just got hitched on Jan. 3, 2009. This is our blog to record our first year of married life and beyond. It should be exciting ... at least for us.
